The Black Peak Expedition (6387 M)—also known as Kala Nag—is one of the most iconic and visually striking 6000+ meter Himalayan expeditions in India. Situated within the Govind Pashu Vihar National Park and forming part of the legendary Bandarpunchmassif, Black Peak rises sharply with its dark, pyramid-shaped summit dominating the skyline of the upper Tons Valley.

This expedition is ideal for climbers who have already transitioned from basic peak climbing and are ready to attempt a serious semi-technical 6000-meter summit that combines long glacier travel, high-altitude camping, sustained summit effort, and complex terrain navigation. While not as extreme as 7000-meter giants, Black Peak demands discipline, endurance, acclimatization mastery, and technical competence.

The journey begins from Dehradun, gradually entering deeper into the Garhwal Himalayas through Sankri, Taluka, and the scenic Har-ki-Dun region. As the expedition progresses, lush pine forests give way to high alpine meadows, glacial lakes like Ruinsara Tal, and finally into rugged moraine and ice terrain near Kyarkoti Base Camp.

The structured acclimatization plan includes a dedicated rest day at base camp, load ferry rotations, and staged movement through Camp I, Camp II, and Summit Camp. Each phase is carefully designed to allow the body to adapt progressively to altitude, minimizing risk while maximizing summit potential.

The summit push to Black Peak (6387 M) is long and demanding, involving early morning departure, rope-assisted movement, steep snow slopes, and sustained physical effort in thin air. From the summit, climbers witness sweeping views of Swargarohini, Bandarpunch I & II, Kalanag glacier systems, and the vast Garhwal Himalayan range.

More than just a summit, the Black Peak Expedition is a journey through some of the most pristine and culturally rich mountain landscapes of Uttarakhand, offering trekkers an unforgettable blend of wilderness, challenge, and achievement.
